Leather Care Tips from the Shop Gnomes

For General care and cleaning, periodically wipe down your leather goods with a damp soft cloth. An old T shirt or other soft towel will do, or microfiber if it doesn’t make your skin crawl . only clean the smooth side of the leather! the suede side does not require cleaning or conditioning.

For our Veg Tanned and Oil tanned pieces, we recommend Dr. Jackson’s Leather cleaner. just gently apply the cleaner with a soft boar hair brush, and wipes the excess with a damp cloth.

For all of our leather pieces, we recommend conditioning every 3 to 6 months to preserve the surface finish of the material. The Shop Gnomes prefer Bickmore Bick No.4 Leather conditioner. it is non toxic and family friendly, and made by a family owned business right here in the USA. it is as easy as applying the conditioner to a damp cloth or sponge, and wiping down the finish surface of the leather. this will preserve the softness, clean away any residual grime, and protect the leather!

For any products exposed to heavy use and elements, such as boots, belts or even veg tan costume pieces like bracers or armor, we recommend a more thorough conditioner that penetrates and weatherproofs. The shop Gnomes prefer Fiebings Aussie Leather conditioner for weatherproofing applications!
